The short version
The Vivian Beaumont Theater at Lincoln Center is Broadway's uptown outlier — a 1,080-seat flexible venue with a thrust stage that can be reconfigured as a proscenium. For Ragtime the stage was set up in thrust configuration, so the audience wrapped around three sides of the action; sightlines were unusually democratic across the house, and no seat was far from the stage.
