Al Hirschfeld Theatre

The Al Hirschfeld Theatre is a 1,424-seat house operated by Ambassador Theatre Group (formerly a Jujamcyn Theaters house), named for the caricaturist whose theatre drawings defined the visual look of mid-twentieth-century Broadway. It hosted Moulin Rouge! The Musical (2019–2026), which closed August 30, 2026, and sits on West 45th Street, the same block as a cluster of smaller Shubert houses.

The room suits spectacle musicals — the proscenium is wide and the orchestra deep enough to support large ensemble numbers without the audience feeling pushed back. The single mezzanine extends meaningfully forward; the rear orchestra under the overhang loses some of the upstage staging. For Moulin Rouge!, the room’s pre-show installation (red drapes, glittering chandeliers, set pieces extending into the audience areas) was part of the experience — orchestra seats were closer to the immersive elements than the mezzanine.
