Circle in the Square Theatre

Circle in the Square is the architectural outlier among active Broadway venues — the only thrust-stage configuration in the district, where the audience wraps around three sides of the playing area rather than facing it head-on. The 776-seat capacity makes it one of the smallest active Broadway houses, and the thrust geometry creates an unusually close actor-audience relationship throughout the room.

For ticket-buyers the practical implications are real: there is no “best seat” in the conventional Broadway sense because the staging adapts to a fundamentally different geometry. Some productions emphasize one side of the thrust over the others; the official seat map for any given show is worth studying before buying, since “front row” can mean very different angles depending on production. The intimacy is the constant: the worst seat at Circle in the Square is closer to the actors than the front row of the Gershwin balcony. Just in Time is in residence.
