Hudson Theatre

The Hudson Theatre is a 970-seat landmark on 44th Street, originally opened in 1903 and one of the oldest theatres still in active Broadway use. After decades as a film house, broadcast studio, and event venue, it was meticulously restored and returned to Broadway use in 2017 under Ambassador Theatre Group’s operation. The 1903 plasterwork, the gilded proscenium, and the Beaux-Arts lobby are all original — preserved through the renovation rather than reproduced.

For ticket-buyers, the Hudson sits in a comfortable middle-size bracket: large enough to support open-run productions, small enough that the rear mezzanine is still close to the stage. The orchestra rake is gentle and rows are narrow front-to-back, so even modest-row seats have a strong sightline. The mezzanine overhangs roughly at the rear orchestra’s midpoint, which keeps the overhang shadow off most orchestra seats — better than a typical Shubert house in that respect.
