Majestic Theatre

The Majestic Theatre opened in 1927 as the centerpiece of the Chanin brothers’ development on West 44th Street, designed by Herbert Krapp in his signature Spanish Renaissance style. With 1,681 seats spread across a deep orchestra and a steeply raked balcony, it remains one of the largest houses on Broadway — and one of the most acoustically generous, which is why it housed The Phantom of the Opera for thirty-five years (1988–2023) without ever needing a significant refit.

The room’s quirks are worth knowing before you book. The balcony at the Majestic is genuinely steep — a sight-line advantage for the back half, but the front balcony’s drop-off means anything taller than a person of average height in row A becomes a real obstruction for whoever sits behind. The rear orchestra benefits from the deep overhang creating an intimate enclosed feel; the trade-off is that anything happening high upstage gets cropped. Center mezzanine is the sleeper-pick for value, especially in rows B through D.
